Hilgendorf Memorials Inscribes New Names
WAUPUN — Four new names were added to the Waupun Area Veteran’s Memorial Wall Friday.
Since its inception in 2004 by Jerry Heeringa, then commander of Getchel-Nelson American Legion Post 210, 1,107 names have been engraved of those area veterans who served our country in peace and war since the War of 1812.
While watching Bob Schroeder of Hilgendorf Rock of Ages Monuments inscribe the new names, Heeringa said, “The memories of all these veterans who have served our great country of the United States of America is over whelming. “They served in raging war times, and dangerous cold wars, and gave their service during peace times causing all of us to be proud to remember those who have served, with our memories of them unlimited.
“And when our Great Commander in the heavens calls us home, as he has done with many veterans listed on these walls, it will be said, ‘Well done. Well done.”
Project director Heeringa is a lifetime member of the Waupun American Legion and VFW posts. Forms with information for having a name placed on the memorial wall are available at all Waupun banks, both grocery stores, Culver’s and the chamber of commerce.
